History of ACT
AKARD COMMUTATOR of TENNESSEE (ACT) superior commitment actually had its beginnings in June of 1990 at the international EASA Convention in New Orleans, LA. Mike Akard was attending the convention as a Marketing / Sales Manager for another commutator supplier / distributor. Mike listened carefully as several potential customers in attendance commented on the extremely high commutator and slip ring prices in the industry at that time compared to the level of service (or lack thereof) provided. From that day forward, Mike began focusing his sales and marketing efforts on attempting to offer each customer better pricing and delivery options. The forthcoming sales increases immediately reflected his improved efforts, but due to numerous production limitations and size restrictions, there was plenty of room for additional improvements.
On October 18, 1993, Mike Akard and other investors put these proven theories to the ultimate test by incorporating AKARD COMMUTATOR of TENNESSEE (ACT). The limited initial production began in September, 1994, and Akard Commutator of Tennessee (ACT) quickly outpaced even the most optimistic growth projections of 1995. As 1995 came to a close a plant-wide planning meeting was held where the entire AKARD COMMUTATOR of TENNESSEE (ACT) “family of employees” elected to adopt a new company creed of: SUPERIOR QUALITY & SERVICE AT A PRICE THAT’S FAIR! As a result of this commitment to SUPERIOR QUALITY & SERVICE, management was restructured, Mike Akard was named President & CEO to better serve AKARD COMMUTATOR of TENNESSEE (ACT) employee designated creed, and AKARD COMMUTATOR of TENNESSEE (ACT) relocated to the current manufacturing facility in Alcoa, TN. AKARD COMMUTATOR of TENNESSEE (ACT) reopened for business in 1996 with a new legal corporate name of ACT MANAGEMENT, Inc. and an improved commitment to SUPERIOR QUALITY & SERVICE! The new creed made an immediate positive impact on customer satisfaction ratings and sales continued to rise. The customers finally had what they had always wanted and deserved: a supplier that truly offers SUPERIOR QUALITY & SERVICE at a GOOD PRICE!
Donna Akard joined the AKARD COMMUTATOR of TENNESSEE (ACT) team in 1997 as Vice President.
